We signed up to be at the Special Olympics today! Grammy sent me a bracelet for down syndrome support and a button that had her grandson Nash and his dog Seger on it so they could be with us in spirit. THe weather held out no rain YAY and it was cool enough to make it just about perfect for an athletic event.

I was with two other dogs and their owners stationed at Victory Garden. Victor did very well. He even sang his songs a couple of times, caught bubbles and did some tricks. At one point three teenagers leaned down their faces no more then an inch apart from each other and very upclose and personal in Victor's face. All he did was wag his tail and hold very still. Another time people crowded in around him, 5 or six all petting him at the same time, some kneeling, some standing. He gave good eye contact, the one thing that i think makes him a really good therapy dog. He got to greet about a hundred kids and he wished them all good luck. ONly one time did i see him be a bit nervous and that was when a very hyper 2-3 year old starting jumping around him. He quickly moved behind me and that was ok too. My grandaughter helped me by carrying my drink and Victor's bucket that had my camera in it. THen she went over to watch the races and made some friends. When the lady came that was suppose to relieve us found out her dog was terrified of the starter gun, she had to leave so we stayed another half hour until the next dogs arrived to take our place. SO he did an extra shift too. Towards the end he stopped looking at people when they approached him, you can tell when the dogs have had enough and i knew it was time for us to go. I bought him a hamburger on the way home. He made me very proud.

I took some pictures of the other dogs but was unable to take ones of VIctor because he was just too close and i couldn't turn loose of the leash. I thought about asking the other ladies if they would, but i chickened out.

I am going to go out and take one after the fact in his new bandana Jane gave him with the PEts for life logo on it. Will post when i get the film developed.

TEll you what if three people I did not know put their faces that close to mine, i would be back peddling like crazy. I ask alot of him but i know he can handle it . Best part is when i said WISH HIM/HER LUCK VICTOR and then i point to my ear which is his signal to speak. A very handy trick especially since everyone is looking at him and don't see my cue. Sent them off with a smile on their faces.

I have a few frames left and am going to wait until Hyia gets home and see if she can take some jumping through the hoopers.
