Okay, so do you think it'd be a bad idea to bring Beau instead of Summer to meet potential other dogs? Summer is DR and will take some time to accept another dog, I know this. Her initial reaction no matter the dog isn't going to go smoothly. I know she will accept other dogs no matter the size (she's lived with paps, a pom, a peke, shelties, and a GSD before fine) after they've proven themselves. My main concern is really the other dog's reaction towards a dog her size. Beau is fine with any dog he meets and he's a lot less scared of strange environments. There are a couple dogs in shelters near here that i think *could* be a good fit but I don't know how they do around little dogs.
Sooo... good idea? Bad idea? I don't want to scare her by taking her someplace scary to meet a dog she doesn't want to mer and make introductions a lot worse. On the other hand I don't want to try a dog that I haven't seen around a little dog before.
Thoughts?

I certainly wouldn't take her. Beau sounds like the better candidate.

I'm going to meet a rescue this weekend. My female is dog reactive. Like yours, I know she will come to accept a polite newcomer. So, only my male meets new candidates.

I think your right to take Beau instead of Summer.
She sounds like Lizzie. Lizzie will except new dogs once in the house, but it takes time. And the intitial reaction doesn't tell much.

I think your best bet... would to take Beau. When/If you find the right dog and adopt them, and she gets used to the dog in the whole Papillon Pack, and then you bring just her and the new dog away when you go back to school or whatever.
Good luck in your search!

I would take Beau Especially if you know Summer will settle in with any newcomer with time, Beau would make initial meetings easier all around.

It sounds like a great plan. Aren't you glad you have a suitable stand-in handy?
